EASY Fix™
Easily recover from computer crashes caused by viruses or software corruption - often within minutes!
EASY Fix TM includes four (4) great features:
The first three (3) features are useful if you have already backed up your computer to Clickfree C6 Easy Imaging.
1) Complete Repair - Easily repair your computer including your Windows operating system, software programs and personal files from a previous backup. Unlike competitive imaging products, C6 EASY Imaging does not default to replacing everything back on your computer because that can take hours and hours. Clickfree compares all the backed up information with that on the computer and replaces just the lost or missing files - so it can completely repair a computer often in minutes!
2) System Reset - Clickfree C6 EASY Imaging creates one section for your Personal Files, and one for your Windows and Software. By doing so, Clickfree can offer the ability to just restore your Windows and Software without affecting your Personal Files, unlike other imaging systems that treat everything as one section and put it back it all back at once and to the same point in time. Clickfree does not force you to choose what matters more - your data or your software. With Clickfree C6 System Reset Imaging you have the flexibility to decide what to restore and to what point in time. So if your computer is operating slower than normal, or you have a corruption in your Windows Operating System or Software you can just Reset them and leave your Personal Files unaffected.
3) Reimage - In the case of a computer hard drive failure, you can easily reimage, or replace, everything from a previous backup back onto a replacement hard drive. And unlike other imaging systems, you can reimage your Windows and Software to one point in time, and your data to another. For example you could reimage your Windows and Software to a further point in time well before your computer crash when it was working its best, and your Personal File to just before the crash so you can have the most recent data.
EVEN IF YOU HAVE NEVER BACKED UP A COMPUTER AND IT CRASHES CLICKFREE C6 EASY IMAGING CAN HELP!
4) Emergency Data Backup Recovery - Recover Personal Files even after Windows has crashed and will not restart. EASY Fix tm has the ability to launch from itself, and not your computer's corrupted hard drive, so it can go in and backup all the Personal File son the computer. Once the computer has a new hard drive you can use EASY restore to place all the Personal Files back onto the new hard drive - or you can transfer them to a new computer. This feature helps you avoid lost data, or the need to use expensive data recovery services.
Deleting a specific file or folder from the Clickfree C6 backup is not supported.
Removing or manually modifying a file or folder from the backup may cause the backup image to become corrupted; this will prevent the restore feature from working correctly.
Q.01011. What are the differences between the Clickfree C6 Easy Fix feature and Easy Restore feature?
Feature differences between the two restore methods that the Clickfree C6 is able to use Click to show/hide answer
A.
EasyFix re-images your entire computer from outside of Windows, the EasyRestore feature performs a content restore from within Windows.
It's important to know that the Clickfree C6 backs up everything on your computer:
Personal data (music, photos, documents, etc.)
Program data (installed applications)
Operating system files
Note: the Clickfree C6 does not backup external drives connected to the computer
Clickfree C6 EasyFix restore method
This method restores everything back to your computer and requires your computer to boot up from the Clickfree outside of Windows
System files, program data, and operating system files cannot be selected individually for restore
This feature is only supported when restoring to the same computer, with the same operating system
Performing an EasyFix restore to the same computer with a new operating system is NOT supported
Performing an EasyFix restore to a new (or different) computer is NOT supported
Clickfree C6 EasyRestore restore method
This method restores personal data from within a Windows environment
Program data and operating system files cannot be restored using this method
Individual files can be selected for restore
Restoration of these files can be restored to the same computer, a different computer, even if the operating system is different
Q.01013. Why does the Clickfree software not launch?
One or both of the Clickfree drives may not be detected, or the Clickfree may not be receiving enough power.
Ensure the Clickfree device is receiving enough power:
Depending on the product; the Clickfree may come with a USB cable, a USB Y-cable, and/or an AC adaptor
Ensure that these are in use if they came with your product
Try plugging your Clickfree into different USB ports:
If using a desktop, use the USB ports located at the back of the computer. These ports generally supply more power than the USB ports located at the front
USB hubs are not supported. The Clickfree must be connected directly to the computer
If your Clickfree was supplied with an AC adaptor, try plugging it into a different power outlet:
The LEDs on the Clickfree will light up when powered ON
Check that both drives named Clickfree_System and CF_Storage exist
If both drives do not appear, the Clickfree software will not function correctly
How to check for Clickfree_System and CF_Storage in Windows:
a. Close any open applications
b. Click on the Start button in Windows
c. Click on Computer (or My Computer)
d. Plug your Clickfree into USB
e. Under the section Drives with removable storage: two drives should appear on the desktop named Clickfree_System and CF_Storage
How to check for Clickfree_System and CF_Storage in Mac OS X:
a. Close any open applications
b. Navigate to the desktop
c. Plug your Clickfree into USB
d. Two drives should appear on the desktop named Clickfree_System and CF_Storage
Note: if either Clickfree_System or CF_Storage do not appear, the Clickfree may not function correctly. See this FAQ for further troubleshooting.
e. Double-click on Clickfree_System, the Clickfree software should launch
Q.01014. Why can't I launch the Clickfree software?
The Clickfree software needs both drives (storage drive and virtual CD-ROM) to be detected in order to work correctly.
This may occur when the Clickfree isn't receiving enough power, isn't detected by the computer, or is missing drive letter assignments.
How to check for and assign missing drive letters in Windows:
1. Using your keyboard, press both the Windows key + R key at the same time
2. A window named Run will appear. In this window, type diskmgmt.msc
3. Press the Enter key on your keyboard, a window named Disk Management will appear
4. Check to see if Clickfree_System and CF_Storage are present. At this point, you may notice that neither Clickfree_System nor CF_Storage have a drive letter assigned.
In order to function correctly, both Clickfree_System and CF_Storage will need to have drive letters assigned to them. How to assign drive letters to your Clickfree:
a. Using your mouse, right-click on CF_Storage, a context menu should appear
b. Select Change Drive Letter and Paths
c. Click on the Add button
d. Select Assign the following drive letter
e. Click on the drop-down list and choose a letter
f. Click on the OK button
g. Right-click on Clickfree_System

Q.01009. How do I use Easy Fix to restore my computer?
The Clickfree C6's Easy Fix feature allows you to perform a complete re-image of your computer's internal hard drives in the event your computer is no longer able to boot up, or if you've replaced the hard drive that has the operating system installed on it. To use the Easy Fix feature requires the computer to boot up outside of the Windows operating system, and from the Clickfree C6 itself. The Clickfree C6 contains a version of the Linux operating system that contains the Easy Fix application. This allows for critical system files to be copied/erased that would normally be in use by the operating system.
Pay attention to the startup screen that displays info about the computer
Look for the words: Boot Menu, which is sometimes referred to as Boot Order
Press the corresponding key to enter the Boot Menu
Since each computer manufacturer implements this menu differently, the key will vary. Consult your computer manufacturer if you're unable to enter the boot menu)
Once the boot menu appears, use the directional keys to navigate through the menu. Press the Enter key to make a selection. The Clickfree C6 may appear as USB CD-ROM, USB HDD, USB Hard Drive, or USB Removable device.
There may be more than one external hard drive or flash drive currently plugged into USB, so the Clickfree C6 may not appear in this list. Try disconnecting the other external drives from USB, restart your computer and try to access the boot menu again.
Depending on the computer manufacturer and the BIOS version, the Clickfree C6 may be named something different from the list above. Through process of elimination, try selecting the other devices in the list, to see if the computer boots from the Clickfree C6 drive.
If you're unable to access the Boot Menu; contact your computer manufacturer on how to perform this task.
Note: some computers are unable to boot from a USB device.
If the boot from Clickfree C6 was successful, press the ENTER key to start Easy Fix
If no key is pressed, the computer will attempt to boot from the next available device (which is usually the internal hard drive that has your operating system installed on it)
The computer will attempt to load the Linux operating system and launch the Clickfree Easy Fix software
Once the Linux operating system completes loading, the Clickfree C6 Easy Fix software will load shortly after
Some computers may experience issues at this point, where the screen is stuck at this blue desktop. From the boot menu, instead of selecting USB CD-ROM, try selecting USB Hard Drive (or vice versa) as the computer is able to boot from either of Clickfree's drive. Not all computers are able to successfully boot from USB devices, so using Easy Fix may not be possible.
Using Easy Fix to re-image your computer
Once the Clickfree Easy Fix software has loaded, click on the Advanced button
Click on the Re-Image button
If no backups are detected, the Clickfree will not be able to perform a reimage
If no hard drives (or the incorrect amount of hard drives) are detected, the Clickfree will not be able to perform a reimage

If a scheduled backup is missed, the Clickfree will attempt to perform a backup once the computer is powered back on. When using a networked Clickfree product, both the host and client(s) will need to be powered on and connected to the network for the backup to start.
Q.01017. Why can't I launch the Clickfree software?
The Clickfree software does not launch, Clickfree_System does not appear in My Computer. Click to show/hide answer
A.
The Clickfree software needs both drives (storage drive and virtual CD-ROM) to be detected in order to work correctly.
This may occur when the Clickfree isn't receiving enough power, isn't detected by the computer, or there's an issue with the device drivers that are loaded.
Check device manager to see if there are any driver issues:
a. Using your keyboard, press both the Windows key + R key at the same time
b. A window named Run will appear. In this window, type devmgmt.msc
c. Press the Enter key on your keyboard, a window named Device Manager should appear
d. Click on DVD/CD-ROM drives
e. Check to see if any of the items in this category have a or or icon
An exclamation, X, or question mark icon may indicate an issue with the generic DVD/CD-ROM drivers that come with your operating system. Please contact your computer manufacturer to help resolve the driver issue.
To confirm the driver issue with your DVD/CD-ROM drive, try inserting a DVD or CD-ROM disc into your DVD/CD-ROM drive. Typically, the disc cannot be read.
The Clickfree virtual CD-ROM (Clickfree_System) relies on the generic Microsoft DVD/CD-ROM driver working correctly. If this driver isn't working, is missing, or is corrupted, the Clickfree's virtual CD-ROM will not work.

Note: If you can't find your files by following the steps above, your files may exist on more than one backup that the Clickfree has performed. Try clicking on the Current PC drop-down list, and choose another PC (if more than one appears). See if the files exist in that backup.
If you find that your files are not visible when following the above steps, there may be a few issues:
The files may not have been backed up, or may have been deleted
You may be viewing the wrong computer, if multiple computers have been backed up
You may have only backed up one computer, but the Clickfree software may have created a new backup. As a result, you might be viewing the wrong backup
Q.01000. Why does my Clickfree get stuck at the searching or backup phase?
Close any programs that are currently running in the background
Add Clickfree to the exception list for any anti-virus, security, or spyware applications; or temporarily disable these applications during the backup
Note: Depending on the performance of your computer and the amount of data that needs to be backed up; the Clickfree may require some time to complete this task.
Q.01003. What happens if I'm using Clickfree when my computer has a virus?
There are several scenarios where a virus may adversely affect the usage of your Clickfree
Will Clickfree backup any viruses on my computer?
Depending on the product used (C1, C2, C2N, C3), the Clickfree copies your personal data from your computer. If a virus is disguised as one of the types of data that Clickfree backs up; then Clickfree may copy this virus to the backup.
Some Clickfree products (C6) create a complete or full backup of your computer, which includes applications and system files. If any of these files are infected, the Clickfree may include these files during the backup.
This applies to both new and incremental backups across all products.
Will Clickfree copy viruses back to my computer during a restore?
Yes. This is possible, as the Clickfree itself does not scan for viruses.
If a backup is infected with a virus, this may be copied over to your computer during a restore.
An up to date anti-virus application may possibly prevent the copying of the infected file(s) back to your computer.
How can I remove a virus from my computer or Clickfree backup?
Update your anti-virus software and perform a scan on the Clickfree's storage drive. You may need to consult your anti-virus application's user manual on how to perform this action.
Try performing a scan on the Clickfree from a computer that isn't infected with a virus
If an uninfected backup was successfully performed with a Clickfree C6, you can perform a restore of your computer's internal hard drives using Clickfree's EasyFix feature.
Q.01022. How do I use the Easy Music (Import Music) feature on my Clickfree?
You can copy music from your iOS device (iPod, iPhone, iPad) to your computer using your Clickfree (C2, C2N, C2 Wireless (C3), and C6) as follows:

When the import is complete, Easy Music will attempt to add the songs to your iTunes library. Depending on how your iTunes software is configured, iTunes may recognize the change to the music library.
If the imported songs are not recognized by iTunes, you will need to manually add the music to your library. Depending on your operating system, Easy Music will copy the songs to the following folders:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\My Music\[iOS device name]
Windows Vista, Windows 7: C:\Users\[username]\Music\[iOS device name]
Note: [username] is your Windows login name. [iOS device name] is the name of the iOS device as seen by iTunes
How do I copy the backed up Music from my Clickfree to my iOS device?
The Clickfree cannot copy music back to the iOS device. Music will need to be restored back to your computer, added to iTunes, and then synced back to your iOS device. Clickfree simply copies the music to a folder on your computer; the iTunes software has the ability to copy the music back to your iOS device.
Does Easy Music create a backup of my iOS device?
No. The Clickfree or Easy Music feature does not create a backup of your iOS device.
Q.01023. Why is my iOS device (iPod, iPhone, iPad) not detected by the Easy Music (or Import Music) feature?
Depending on your product, there are a few ways to restore from backup. See below for additional information.

Q.01031. Why does the Clickfree display an incorrect drive size in My Computer?
This may occur when a disk error exists on the Clickfree.
When the Clickfree's storage drive contains errors, it may not be properly recognized by the computer or the Clickfree software. Depending on what file system the Clickfree is using, the method for correcting this error will vary.
Right-click the drive named CF_Storage, a context menu will appear
Select Properties
Select the Tools tab
Under the section named Error Checking, click on the Check Now button
Click on the Start button. This process may take some time.
Repeat the Error Checking process until no problems have been found
Disconnect the Clickfree from USB, wait 10 seconds
Plug the Clickfree back into the computer
Performing a disk check from Mac OS X:
Close any open applications
Plug the Clickfree into USB
Close any error messages that may have popped up
Click on Spotlight (magnifying glass icon) located at the top right corner, next to the time and date. A search field will appear.
In Spotlight, type: Disk Utility
A list of results will appear. Select Disk Utility from the Applications section
Plug your Clickfree into USB, wait a few moments for the application to recognize the Clickfree
Click on Clickfree Backup Media
Click on the First Aid tab
Click on the Repair Disk
Repeat the Repair Disk pricess until no problems have been found
Disconnect the Clickfree from USB, wait 10 seconds
Plug the Clickfree back into the computer
Note: When performing an error check on a Clickfree that is formatted using the NTFS file system, the error check must be performed on a Windows computer. Mac OS X does not have the ability to correct any NTFS file system errors when using the Disk Utility application.
Q.01038. How do I properly eject the Clickfree from USB?
To avoid potential disk errors, safely removing or unmounting the Clickfree from your computer is important. Depending on your operating system, the procedure will vary.
This may occur when on or more of the Clickfree drives are not detected by the computer, or is not receiving enough power. Try the troubleshooting steps below:
Ensure the Clickfree is receiving enough power:
Depending on the product; the Clickfree may come with a USB cable, a USB Y-cable, and/or an AC adaptor. Ensure that these are in use if they came with your product
Try plugging your Clickfree into different USB ports
If using a desktop, be sure to use the USB ports located at the back of the computer; these ports generally supply more power than the USB ports located at the front
USB hubs are not supported; be sure to connect directly to the computer
If your Clickfree was supplied with an AC adaptor, try plugging it into a different power outlet
Check to see what drives are detected by your computer:
If you're using Windows:
Close any open applications
Press the Start button in Windows
Select Computer or My Computer
Plug your Clickfree into USB
Under the section named Devices with removable storage, two drives named Clickfree_System (CD-ROM) and CF_Storage (hard drive) will appear
If you're using Mac:
Close any open applications
Plug your Clickfree into USB
In Finder and on the desktop, two drives named Clickfree_System (CD-ROM) and CF_Storage (hard drive) will appear
If you're using a C2N or C3 and have used the supplied USB key to install the software: this version of the software can't be updated. You'll need to uninstall the software manually and then perform an install of the software using the Clickfree itself
Attempt an update using another computer
If the SACUpdater utility is launched directly from Clickfree_System/BIN or Clickfree_System/Start Clickfree Backup.app/Contents/data located in the Clickfree's virtual CD-ROM drive, then the update will fail
Try booting into the 32-bit Mac OS X kernel to perform the update. Current versions of Mac OS X will boot into the 64-bit kernel by default
USB 3.0 versions of Clickfree are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports. See below for additional information
Any USB 3.0 version of a Clickfree device will still work on computers that only have USB 2.0 ports. Clickfree will transfer files at USB 2.0 speeds.
Any USB 2.0 version of a Clickfree device will also work on computers that only have USB 3.0 ports. Clickfree will still transfer files at USB 2.0 speeds.
If you only have USB 1.1 ports on your computer, the Clickfree may still work; however, the speed of the backup will be extremely slow.
Note: To ensure USB 3.0 port compatibility, ensure that your USB 3.0 host controller's firmware is up to date. See your computer manufacturer on how to do this.
Q.01052. Where is the user manual for my Clickfree product?
This will affect the restore procedure. When this error is thrown, restoring using the EasyFix feature will not be available, or the EasyFix feature will not be able to perform a reimage correctly.
Volume Shadow Copy is a Windows service that is required for Clickfree to function properly. If this service is malfunctioning, Clickfree will not be able to backup your files.
Try re-starting the Full Imaging Service and Volume Shadow Copy services (administrator privledges are required):
Press the Start button
Right-click on Computer or My Computer
Select Manage
Click on Services and Applications
Double-click on Services
Right-click on FullImagingService, select Stop
Right-click on Volume Shadow Copy, select Stop
Right-click on FullImagingService, select Start
Right-click on Volume Shadow Copy, select Start
Note: if the Volume Shadow Copy service is malfunctioning, Clickfree will not be able to create a proper backup of your computer. To troubleshoot Volume Shadow Copy errors, please contact the manufacturer of your computer.
Q.01055. Does the Clickfree C6 backup external hard drives?
This message is generated when there's an error on the disk that needs to be repaired. When booting into the EasyFix feature, the Linux operating system that is loaded in the background throws this type of error message when it can't access the Clickfree's storage drive. The "password" that is mentioned has nothing to do with the Clickfree C6's "password" that can be set when booted into Windows.
To resolve this issue, try the following from a Windows computer, while booted into a Windows operating system:
This occurs when the computer experiences difficulty booting into the Linux operating system that the Clickfree C6 uses to launch the Easy Fix software. Not all computers are the same, some computers have difficulty booting from Clickfree's USB hard drive and/or Clickfree's virtual CD-ROM.
To troubleshoot this issue, try the following:
Power your computer OFF
Plug the Clickfree C6 into USB
Power your computer ON
While the computer is powering ON, access the boot menu as you did before
The Clickfree C6 will typically be displayed twice in the boot menu: USB HDD (USB Hard Drive, USB Removable device) or USB CD-ROM. Select USB CD-ROM.
Allow Easy Fix to start
If the problem persists, try selecting Clickfree's other entry in the boot menu: USB HDD. The Clickfree has the capability from booting from either drive. If one method doesn't work, try the other.
Note: Not all computers are able to boot from a USB device. If you're not sure if your computer is able to boot from a USB device such as the Clickfree, please contact your computer manufacturer for further information.
Q.01058. Why does Easy Fix not detect the correct amount of hard drives?
"Missing BOOTMGR", "Missing NTLDR", or "Operating System Not Found" may be the result of a restore that did not complete successfully. This may be caused by:
Restoring from a corrupt or modified backup
The original backup may not have completed successfully
Booting from an incorrect hard drive
An incomplete restore due to incompatible disk types
Ensure your Clickfree C6 is up to date and free of disk errors:
Perform a check disk to resolve any disk errors (Note: this doesn't fix any corrupt backups that may exist on the Clickfree C6)
Try to perform a reimage or repair/reset again:
Power your computer OFF
Plug the Clickfree C6 into USB, ensure no other external storage devices are plugged in
Power your computer ON
Boot into Easy Fix
Perform a reimage or repair. Select a different date/time to restore from, as the backup that was previously selected may have been corrupted.
Your computer may be trying to boot from the incorrect hard drive:
Power your computer OFF
Disconnect any USB storage devices (USB flash drives, USB hard drives, USB CD-ROM drives, etc), including the Clickfree C6
Power your computer ON
Using the boot menu, select the internal hard drive that contains the installation of your operating system
Note: If more than one internal disk appears in the boot menu, you may need to try selecting the other entries in the boot menu to see if the operating system starts correctly
Easy Fix will not be able to restore to non basic hard drives; which includes dynamic disks and any hard drives in a RAID array. When performing a reimage, the destination hard drive(s) will need to be of equal capacity (or larger) than the hard drives that were backed up. Even though the amount of data that was backed up may be less than the destination drive's capacity; this requirement must be met.
Q.01004. What contributes to the performance of the Clickfree backup?
